A Simple LinkedIn® Posting Strategy to Showcase Your Brand and Get Found

By Terry Sullivan

Have you ever wondered if you should be posting on LinkedIn®, and if so, what to post? You know it helps to stay active, but choosing a topic, writing something useful, and finding the time can feel like one more thing on your to-do list.

The good news is, it doesn’t have to be complicated. With just 15 to 30 minutes a day, you can join conversations, share helpful articles, and post your own ideas. Over time, this simple routine will help showcase your brand and give the right people a reason to visit your profile and connect with you.

Let’s get started.

Why Engaging and Posting on LinkedIn® Matters

Your LinkedIn® posts help people get to know you. When you share a lesson from your work or an idea you’re excited about, people get to see what you know and what you bring to the table.

Commenting on other people’s posts helps, too. A thoughtful comment puts your name, branding headline, and point of view into a conversation that people outside your network can see. Some of them will get curious, click on your name, and visit your profile.

So make sure your profile is ready for visitors. Use a current photo where you’re looking right into the camera with a big smile, a banner image that makes people want to stay and learn more, and a branding headline that tells them who you are, what you do, and how you can help.

Create a Simple 15- to 30-Minute Daily Routine

Set aside 15 to 30 minutes a day, and do all your LinkedIn® activities during that time. That includes checking your messages, accepting and sending connection requests, reading through your news feed, and liking, commenting on, or sharing three to five posts from people in your network.

Then, once or twice a week, curate or create a post of your own. A curated post is when you share someone else’s article and add your own thoughts about it. You don’t need to post every day to stay visible. Just keep showing up, because consistency matters more than perfection.

I’ll walk you through each part of this routine in the next few sections.

Like, Comment, and Connect Every Day

When you find a post you enjoy, like it first, and then leave a comment. Add a sentence or two that shares your thoughts or advice. Instead of writing “Great post,” say what stood out to you. Write each comment in your own words, so people get a real sense of who you are, what you do, and how you can help. And if a photo will help your comment stand out, add one, too.

Comments also help a post’s reach. Reach is the number of people who see a post. The more likes and comments a post gets, the more people LinkedIn® shows it to, and thoughtful comments help even more than likes. So a good comment helps the person who wrote the post, and it puts your name in front of many more people, too.

And when someone takes the time to comment on your post, always like their comment and reply as soon as you can, while your post is still active. Thank them and answer any questions they have. When it fits, ask a follow-up question to keep the conversation going. If they’re not a connection yet, send them a personal invitation to connect and mention their comment. It’s a simple, friendly way to connect with new people on LinkedIn®.

Create One or Two Curated Posts a Week with SmartBrief

Curated posts are one of the easiest ways to post regularly, because you don’t have to come up with every idea yourself. Aim for one curated post each week, and add a second later in the week if you find another article worth sharing. And SmartBrief.com makes finding a good article quick and simple.

SmartBrief is one of my go-to resources for finding great articles that my audience loves to read. It’s a digital media publisher and includes top news stories from dozens of industries. Read the articles right on the website, or sign up for free newsletters on the topics you want to be known for. Either way, you’ll always have fresh ideas at your fingertips.

Here’s how it works. When you find an article your audience will enjoy reading, copy the link. Then click “Start a post” at the top of your LinkedIn® homepage and paste it in. Begin your copy with a sentence that will grab the attention of your readers. Share the key points from the article that stood out to you and why they matter to your audience. Then wrap it up with a short takeaway you’d like them to remember.

One last tip before you hit Post: take a minute to make sure all names, facts, and numbers in your post match the original article. A quick check like this helps you share with confidence and protects your brand.

Create Your Own Posts and Use AI Wisely

Got an experience, idea, or lesson you’d like to share? You don’t have to write the perfect post from scratch. Just jot down a few quick notes: the main point you want to make, an example from your work, and what you’d like readers to do next. Then ask Claude or your favorite AI tool to turn your notes into a rough draft.

To get a draft that sounds like you, give your AI tool a short brand voice guide. Include who you are, what you do, how you can help, and how you want to sound. Then share a few of your own posts with your AI tool, ones that really sound like you. AI will pick up your voice much faster from your real posts than from a description.

When you have completed your draft, read and edit every word. Read it out loud, change anything you wouldn’t say, and add your own point of view. And most importantly, make sure your new copy sounds like you. AI can help you get started, but in the end, your ideas, experience, and brand voice should always shape the final copy.

Add a Banner Image That Grabs the Reader’s Attention

Think about how you scroll through your own LinkedIn® news feed. You decide in a split second whether to stop and read a post or keep going. The right banner image can get people to stop scrolling and want to learn more about your topic, so make sure it’s eye-catching and ties right back to the main idea of your post.

Your banner image can be an illustration, a simple design, or a photo. Canva AI makes it easy to create an illustration or design. Or you can use a photo of yourself leading a workshop, speaking at a conference, or volunteering in your community. Here’s how to create one with Canva AI:

  1. In Canva, create a new design that’s 1200 × 1200 pixels.
  2. Click Canva AI and describe the image you want, including your topic and brand colors. Ask it not to include any words, since AI often misspells them.
  3. Add a short headline in big, clear text, so it’s easy to read on a phone.
  4. Download your image as a PNG, and upload it to your post.

End Every Post with a Clear Call to Action

Every post should end with a call to action (CTA). Think of it as a friendly invitation that tells readers what to do next. Keep it simple and connect it to your topic, so it feels like a natural next step. Here are a few CTAs you can start using right away:

  • Connect with me on LinkedIn®
  • Share your thoughts in the comments
  • Visit my website to learn more

Add 1 to 3 Tags and 1 to 3 Hashtags

Once you’ve finished writing your post and added your CTA, you’re almost ready to share it. The last step is to add a few tags and hashtags at the very end of your post.

Tagging people is a great way to get more eyes on your post. When you tag someone, LinkedIn® lets them know with a notification. And when they like or comment on your post, their connections may see it, too. That’s how one tag can help you reach a whole new group of people.

Before you tag someone, ask yourself: Would this person be glad I tagged them? If the answer is yes, here’s how to tag them. Type the @ symbol, followed by the person’s name. A list of names will appear. Click on the right person from the drop-down list, and LinkedIn® will add the tag to your post.

For hashtags, I recommend using one to three, placed below your tags on the next line down. Start with your branded hashtag. Mine is #TerrySullivan or #BuzzPro, my company name. Then add one or two hashtags that best describe your topic, like #Leadership or #ArtificialIntelligence.

Schedule Your Posts with the Clock Icon

Here’s a LinkedIn® feature I think you’ll love. When your post is ready, click the clock icon in the bottom right corner of your content creation box, next to the Post button. LinkedIn® calls this their “Schedule for later” scheduling feature. Pick a day and time you’d like your post to go live, then click Next and Schedule.

I’ve found that the best times to post are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings. That’s when a lot of people log into LinkedIn®, right before their first meeting of the day. Schedule your post for an “off” time, like 8:07 or 8:43, instead of right at 8:00 or 8:30. It’s a small touch that helps your post feel less automated and more like it came from you.

Keep Showing Up, and the Right People Will Find You

Posting on LinkedIn® doesn’t have to be complicated, and it doesn’t have to take up your whole day. Just 15 to 30 minutes a day is all it takes to like and comment on posts, share helpful articles, and post your own ideas and experiences. It’s the same simple routine I follow, and it really works.

So keep showing up, even on your busiest days. Every comment and post you create gives people a chance to learn more about who you are, what you do, and how you can help. And over time, the right people will find you, connect with you, and start a conversation.
